The general rule
A donation is a voluntary gift and is normally non-refundable. Once funds are allocated to a programme they are usually committed within days, which is why we cannot treat donations like ordinary purchases.
When we will refund
- Duplicate payment. The same donation was charged more than once.
- Wrong amount. A clear typing error, for example ₹50,000 instead of ₹5,000.
- Unauthorised payment. Someone donated using your card or account without permission.
- Technical error. You were charged but no receipt was generated.
How to request a refund
Write to us from the contact page within seven days of the donation with your receipt number, the payment reference and a short explanation. We will confirm within two working days.
How long it takes
Approved refunds are processed back to the original payment method within seven working days. Depending on your bank it may take a further five to ten working days to appear in your account. We do not refund to a different account or method.
Effect on your 80G certificate
If a donation is refunded, any 80G certificate issued for it becomes invalid and must not be used in your tax return. We will send you a cancellation note for your records.
Failed payments
If a payment fails, no amount is collected by us. Any hold placed by your bank is released automatically, usually within five working days. You do not need to request a refund for a failed payment.
